Flight attendants across the commercial air travel industry
are upset over the widening gap between their pay and
executive compensation, according to House testimony.
“I cannot escape the conclusion that executives
used the bankruptcy laws to enrich themselves at the
expense of workers like me,” Flight Attendant Antoinette
Muoneke explained in written testimony to the House Judiciary
Submission on Commercial and Administrative Law.
Muoneke testified during the “Executive Compensation
in Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Cases – How Much is Too
Much?” hearing.
“The cuts forced during the bankruptcy have turned
my life upside down. I worked full time before, but now
my hours away from home have increased by nearly 40 percent,
and that extra time at work doesn’t even cover
my loss in pay,” she said.
Muoneke testified that she has been forced to cut her
medical insurance, had her pension terminated, and will
be unable to recover her retirement security, all while
executives profited.
Her testimony was among the many the House heard in
testimony from the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA.
