Telecommunications executives know one thing others
many not realize – the telecommunications industry
is a behemoth, touching the lives of every person, business,
and executive in the United States.
From the standard household phone to wireless communications,
telecommunications executives hold stead over a growing
field of influence.
The Federal Communications Commission recently released
its report on the telecommunications industry, noting
that telecommunication industry revenues topped $1.055
billion in 2004.
Other findings of note include:
94 percent – 107.5 million – of all
households have telephone service
112.2 million residences and small businesses have
ILEC access lines
19.8 million residences and small businesses have
CLEC access lines
37.9 million advanced service liens have over 200
kbps in at least one direction
26.4 million advanced service lines have over 200
kbps in both directions
35.3 million residences and small businesses have
high-speed lines
There are 552 high speed providers
There are 107.5 million ADSL lines
94 percent of lines are coaxial cable linesThere are 112.2 million mobile wireless telephone
subscribers
Average monthly wireless minutes used is 19.8 million
minutes
Average annual household telecom expenditures topped
$552 million in 2003, including LECs, long distance
and wireless. The telephone industry employs more
than 21.4 million people
